On December 19, 2014 the spokesperson of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Rupert Colville, participated in the press briefing organized by the UN office in Geneva.
One of the topics discussed was the "US-Cuba relations" and Colville was all too happy to blame the United States for the human rights abuses committed by the Cuban authorities against its citizens.
"Answering to a question on whether the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba could encourage Cuban authorities to be even more repressive, Mr. Colville stated that he did not see why that should be the case. Clearly, the blockade against Cuba had affected the average Cuban in a significant way for many years..."
The OHCHR spokesperson also praised the influence of the UN human rights office on the Cuban regime.
"On whether the OHCHR and the Human Rights Council had any sway over Cuban authorities, Mr. Colville said that he believed that all Governments listened to what the OHCHR was saying..."
