The latest on that UN chemical weapons probe on Syria: "we are working to finalize the legal and logistical modalities for the investigations." Asked by reporters why they're still twiddling their thumbs in The Hague, here's the UN whopper: "the team...was facing some "technical hitches and would rather postpone the visit to Damascus for a while."

Now running for the UN Human Rights Council are the following luminaries: Russia, China, and Algeria. The key UN-concocted "burden" for running for membership on the UN's top human rights body is to make a "pledge" about the country's serious interest in protecting human rights. So duly mounted on the UN website comes the following pledge from China:
"The Chinese Government...has made unremitting efforts for the promotion and protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Chinese people..." [ed. note: if by 'unremitting' they mean non-stop efforts to deny civil and political rights] "The Chinese Government has introduced effective measures to promote...social harmony, and strived for a happier life with more dignity for its people..." [ed. note: by silencing anyone with non-harmonious views] "The Chinese Government wishes to take this opportunity to make the following solemn pledges:...To continue to strengthen the development of democracy and the rule of law..." [ed. note: 'continue' being the operative word, since the non-development of democracy will definitely continue] "To further protect the rights and interests of minority ethnic groups, women..." [ed. note: unless one hails from Tibet, is a member of Falun Gong, happen to want a second child, etc. etc.]
With this pledge, China's election is assured.
After bankrolling terrorist ideology around the world, Saudi Arabia has made a huge contribution to the UN for a "counter terrorism" cover story. 100 million dollars will go to the so-called UN Centre on Counterterrorism. A reasonable question would be: a centre for countering what? Because the UN has no definition of terrorism. In fact, the reason that the UN has no definition of terrorism is in no small measure due to Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom - along with the rest of the UN's Islamic states who are all parties to the Islamic Terrorism Convention - insists that murdering Israelis and Americans who get in the way of "self-determination" is not terrorism. Now into this farcical mix steps John Kerry. Kerry has made an official statement "applauding" Saudi Arabia. The Secretary profusely thanked the Saudis for their contribution to financing counter-terrorism - notwithstanding that through their hate-filled "educational" and "charitable" works around the world they do exactly the opposite. Kerry was also happy that the money would "build support to implement the UN Global Counterterrorism Strategy." That strategy both fails to define terrorism, and is the UN's central instrument for turning poor-terrorists into victims. Its section number one is entitled "Measures to address the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism." Among other things, the Strategy urges states to "recognize...that...youth unemployment, could reduce marginalization and the subsequent sense of victimization that propels extremism and the recruitment of terrorists." Does it look like Al-Qaeda members are out of a job to you? So not only are the terror-supporting Saudis paying blood money to the UN for countering-terror, the Obama administration thinks that's great.
"Sitting alone in her gloomy room, 17-year-old Mariam recalled the year and a half she spent at the house of her husband, whom she was forced to marry when she was 15 to escape poverty. As Mariam gazed at the small doll in her hands, suddenly her mind was flooded with memories in which she was continuously beaten and verbally abused in the house of her husband. Her father's voice, however, interrupted this chain of memories. "Mariam!" he shouted. She rushed to answer him. He told her, firmly, "You should return to your husband's house no matter what he did to you. You should learn to accept this. Do you understand?!" As she spoke to Al-Monitor, Mariam, a girl with flawless olive skin, described this scene in her own sad words, giving details of the bitter experience of her marriage to a 37-year-old man. Her father forced her to marry him after he became unable to meet her basic living needs and educational requirements."

As the Obama administration runs for cover around the world from the same Al-Qaida which was so irrelevant to the President just prior to last year's election, the UN's Al-Qaida sanctions committee has slipped the following information under the back door. "Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee Amends Three Entries on Its Sanctions List." The sanctions committee is a fancy description of the Security Council members just putting on another hat.
Now for the fine print. The press release reads: "Individuals associated with Al-Qaida...released from detention in Germany." Released from detention - but not removed from the Al-Qaida sanctions list. Individuals on this list are supposed to be subject to serious sanctions designed to prevent terror attacks. Instead, dangerous people are moving in - and out - of Germany. Why?
