5 Israelis Wounded in Firebomb Attack Near West Bank Settlement

A 4-year-old girl was moderately wounded when a firebomb was hurled at her family's car near the West Bank settlement of Beit El on Friday afternoon. Her parents and two siblings sustained light wounds in the attack.

The family was driving down Highway 60 when the incendiary device was thrown at the vehicle. The 4-year-old girl sustained burns to 35% of her body. They were rushed to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out between Israeli security forces and Palestinians in several areas in the West Bank and on the Gaza border. Dozens of Palestinians were wounded by gunfire and tear gas fired by Israeli forces, according to Israeli and Palestinian figures.

Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, had called for Day of Rage rallies after Friday prayers, though protests were less intense than in previous weeks.

"By the blood of their sons, Jerusalem and the West Bank will write the end of the occupation," said Ismail Rudwan, an official from Hamas, which controls Gaza.

Some 600 Gazans gathered in various areas near the enclave's border, throwing stones and torching tires, according to the IDF. Israeli troops responded with gas grenades at first, following up with live gunfire. According to Palestinian reports, one person was killed.

In the West Bank, clashes broke out in the areas of Hebron, El Bireh, Beit Ummar and at Rachel's Tomb. The Palestinians torched tires and threw stones and firebombs, according to the IDF. Two border police officers were wounded.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that a 13-year-old boy was hit in the stomach by a live bullet in a clash in El Bireh, not far from the Beit El settlement, and was rushed to a Ramallah hospital in serious condition. The IDF is investigating the report.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was expected to meet in Amman on Saturday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah, who has a role as a custodian of the Muslim sacred sites in Jerusalem.

The Quartet of Middle East peace mediators met in Vienna on Friday and urged Israeli and Palestinian leaders to tone down their rhetoric and calm tensions.

Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon speaking at the UN Security Council on October 22, 2015.

Situation in the Middle East
October 22, 2015
Delivered by Ambassador Danny Danon

Mr. President,

As Israel's new ambassador to the United Nations, I have been charged with a sacred duty - to represent the people and the state of Israel before the nations of the world.

Like people everywhere, the people of Israel seek to live in peace, and to see their children prosper. For the Jewish People, who have suffered centuries of exile and persecution, our dream can be summed up in the words of our national anthem, בארצנו חופשי עם להיות - "To live as a free people in our land".

Tragically, since the establishment of the State of Israel, every Israeli in every generation has been touched by war and by terror.

My own father, Joseph Danon, was severely wounded by terrorists while protecting the Jordan valley during his reserve duty.

After sustaining critical head injuries, and hearing loss, he eventually passed away after a long and painful struggle.

This was a tragedy for myself and for my family.

Distinguished representatives, I have experienced first-hand the price of war.

We all hope, we all pray for peace with our neighbors and we will do all that we can to achieve this noble goal, but we will never compromise the security of the Jewish State.

Today I address this chamber at a time of great difficulty and pain in my country and for my people.

This is not how I envisioned my first address, here.

Over the past six weeks, the streets of Israel have been swept by a savage tide of terror and I am disappointed that all I hear are calls to end the cycle of violence.

Let me make one thing clear - this is not a cycle of violence. These are simply unprovoked attacks against Israelis for no reason other than the fact that they are Jews living in their historic homeland.

Like any country, Israel has the right and obligation to defend its citizens and this is exactly what we are doing.

Any country, any country, whose people were being attacked in the streets on a daily basis would act in the exact same way.

Mr. President,

Since Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, Israelis have endured a season of sorrow.

Men, women, and children have been maimed and killed on the streets of Israeli cities, in broad daylight.

Palestinian terrorists have chosen Israeli victims at random, using rifles and rocks, butcher knives, screwdrivers, and even two ton vehicles to shed the blood of innocents.

Israelis today know that an attack can come at any time, in any place, without warning, and without mercy.

From Haifa to Beersheva, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israelis walking through their own neighborhoods are constantly looking over their shoulders, to see what will come. People are afraid to stop for coffee on the way to work, or even to take a public bus.

All of us here have families.

Mothers and fathers worry that their children could be knifed to death when they leave the house, and children are worried their parents won't make it home.

This is the true meaning of terror.

Mr. President,

When someone leaves their home holding a kitchen knife with the intention of killing another person – any person – this stems from deep hatred.

When that someone is thirteen, a thirteen year old boy, who stabs an Israeli boy riding a bicycle fifteen times, fifteen times, – this stems from a culture of hate.

Nelson Mandela once said, "No one is born hating another person... People must learn to hate."

Tragically, Palestinian children have been receiving lessons in hatred from their leaders, in their schools, and on children's television programs.

A children's program was aired on The Palestine Public Broadcast Corporation media station, it's called, Palestine This Morning, in which a young girl recited a poem calling to kill Jews, and I'm Quoting, "barbaric monkeys," and "the most evil among creations," and those "who murdered Allah's pious prophets."

She concluded, "I do not fear barbarity... as long as I have my arm and my stones." – Public Television.

As we saw, here in this room, in last week's emergency session of the Security Council, many seem to be confused about the cause of the current escalation.

Here, in the words of this young girl, you have the answer: An entire generation of Palestinian youth is being brainwashed with bigotry, brought up to glorify violence, and raised to dehumanize Jews.

This indoctrination poisons the minds of the youth, and the results are only a google search away.

Just take a look, not now, but take a look at what is trending on Palestinian social media:

There are vicious cartoons showing brutal killings of Israelis, There are instructional videos for how to commit a terror attack in the most efficient way, There is even an animated clip of the murder of Eitam and Na'ama Henkin – Israeli parents who were killed in front of their children.

Since most of you have not seen this clip, let me tell you that a special effort was made to show the fear and terror in the eyes of the Henkin children who were sitting in the back seat of their car as they watched their parents being murdered.

It's no wonder that in this current wave of attacks, at least nine of the attackers have been Palestinians under the age of 18.

When children are taught hostility and hatred instead of math and science; When teenagers are encouraged to grab a knife instead of a book; When the youth are shown images of violence instead of a vision for peace; Then they too are victims.

When you ignore this deliberate corruption of the minds of children, you are not a part of the solution – you are a part of the problem.

Mr. President,

The history of my region demonstrates that hatred starts with falsehood and incitement, and ends with violence.

The spree of stabbings, shooting, and stonings we now face began with lies, lies about the Temple Mount.

President Abbas, and the Palestinian leadership have repeatedly and systematically accused Israel of trying to change the status quo.

This inflammatory allegation is false, and President Abbas knows it is false.

Yet, this deliberate and malicious lie is told over and over again.

Not only is this conspiracy theory not true, but it is also not new.

Allow me to quote the following:

"We hereby announce... that no one ... has any intention of infringing the rights of Muslims to the places that are holy to them... Any attempt to describe the desire of the Jews to pray at this holy place... as the creation of a strategic base for an attack on the mosques of the Muslims, is nothing but the fruit of fevered imagination or a malicious libel."

Do the words I read sound familiar?

The statement I have just read to you was not issued last week. It was not even issued last year. It was made in 1928, 1928, by the National Committee of the Jews of the Land of Israel.

Even then, 20 years before the establishment of the State of Israel, lies were spread about the Temple Mount in order to incite violence against Jews.

In the violence which followed, back then, one hundred and thirty three Jews were massacred and hundreds more were injured.

Today, when President Abbas declares, and I quote, "Israel intends to make Al-Aqsa Jewish" and says, "We welcome every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem", he understands the consequences of his words; he knows full well that it leads to new waves of violence and terror, and that lives will be lost.

Then, as now, the story is the same: same plot, same characters, same ending.

Actually, there is one major difference:

In 1928, the "convenient" explanations we so often hear in this chamber, didn't apply. In 1928, there was no Israeli presence on the Temple Mount; In 1928, no Settlements; No State of Israel; And no excuses to sell to the international community.

Whoever claims that Israeli actions and policies are the reason for the violence needs to learn a lesson in history.

Mr. President,

The Palestinians are employing old tactics and are trying to score easy victories without having to negotiate, without negotiation.

They are using the violence they incited and instigated in order to manipulate the international community.

Instead of penalizing the Palestinians, the international community is rewarding them.

Israel is fully committed to the status quo. Under this agreement, Muslims are free to visit and pray at the compound.

Members of other religions, including Jews and Christians, may only visit, may only visit and they can do so only on weekday mornings between seven and eleven o'clock.

Israel not only accepted this arrangement, it is responsible for enforcing it.

The facts speak for themselves.

Let me share with you some numbers.

Every year, there are approximately 3.5 million visits by Muslims, who come to pray in the AlAksa mosque, and 80,000 non-Muslims visit the site, of which only 12,000 are Jews.

The status quo on the Temple Mount is the only guarantee for freedom of religion in Jerusalem.

We've said it before and we'll say it again:

Israel will not agree to an international presence on the Temple Mount.

If the international community wishes to be constructive, it should focus on ending the incitement.

Mr. President,

No nation represented in this chamber would accept the presence of international forces in their capital.

I would like to say to my colleague, the French Representative, we know that your country wants to see peace in our region. We too want peace, but the only way to peace is with direct talks between the parties.

It is the only way. It was proven in the past and it's the only way to promote peace.

The best way to reduce tensions in the region is to urge President Abbas to accept Prime Minister Netanyahu's call to meet with him, here in the UN, in Jerusalem, in Ramallah, wherever.

Mr. President,

Israel opposes any change in the status quo on the Temple Mount.

The place where the status quo needs to change is here at the UN.

If the UN is truly interested in calming tensions and bringing peace to the region, it must change its default settings.

The UN must end its usual practice of calling on both sides to show restraint, and state clearly:

there is one side that is instigating a wave of terror.

Stop making excuses for the Palestinians, and start holding them accountable.

Demand that President Abbas cease his incitement.

Insist that he return to the negotiating table.

Only then, once the Palestinians see that promoting violence will get them nowhere; will the reality on the ground change and the prospects for peace return.

Mr. President,

Please allow me to conclude with a quote from the Bible:

יהוה עז לעמו יתן

יהוה יברך את עמו בשלום

"The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace."

Thank you very much.

Israel UN Ambassador Danon at UNSC: Slander of Jews attempting to destroy Jerusalem mosque a hundred years old Article

A Hamas shirt was worn by one of the two terrorists who were shot by police after attempting to carry out a stabbing attack in Beit Shemesh, on October 22, 2015.

An Israeli teenager was wounded in a stabbing attack by two Palestinians in Beit Shemesh on Thursday morning.

The victim, 18, incorrectly described as a policeman in initial reports, sustained light to moderate injuries. He was evacuated to Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem.

The two terrorists, identified by police as Palestinians from the Hebron area, were shot in the attack, which took place shortly before 8 a.m. on Havakuk Street. One was reportedly in critical condition while another was said to be dead on arrival at hospital.

The assailants were later named as 20-year-olds Maqdad Alhih from Halhul and Mahmoud Ghanimat from Surif.

The Shin Bet security service said that one of the two was a member of Hamas and the second had been jailed for two years after he was caught carrying a knife at the Cave of Patriarchs holy site in Hebron.

Both were wearing t-shirts reading "Izz ad-Din al-Qassam," the name of Hamas' armed wing.

Yinon Chen, an eyewitness to the events, told Channel 2 that the attackers were standing at a bus stop alongside children waiting for their morning ride to school. "I saw these two suspicious-looking people. They tried to board a school bus," Chen said, "but the driver closed the door in order to keep them out."

The attempt to board a school bus full of children was confirmed by Jerusalem District Police spokesperson Asi Aharony, according to the Ynet news site.

Chen continued: "Nobody wanted to approach them because nobody had a gun."

Chen called the police and began following the two men. "They saw me approach, so they walked away, to another street. I followed, with the police on the phone."

A police cruiser arrived, and Chen pointed the cops in the direction of the suspicious individuals, who he said were "wearing their hoodies up, with hands in their pockets. The cops followed in their direction. A young man walked out of the synagogue [they were approaching], and they jumped him."

The terrorists apparently attempted to enter the synagogue on Havakuk Street in order to stab the worshipers at their morning prayers.

After the stabbing of the young man as he left the synagogue, the officers caught up with the attackers, shooting them and reportedly killing one.

The attack is the first to hit Beit Shemesh, a city of some 100,000 residents southwest of Jerusalem, in the wave of knife-related terror attacks that has struck Israeli cities since late September.

Israeli security forces seen near the body of the Palestinian terrorist after he stabbed and severely wounded an Israeli soldier near the Adam junction, north of Jerusalem.

An Israeli soldier was in critical condition Wednesday after she was stabbed by a Palestinian near the Adam junction, near the Hizme checkpoint north of Jerusalem.

The 20-year-old woman sustained a stab wound to her upper body and was undergoing surgery at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus. Her life was in danger, doctors said.

"When we got to the scene we saw a young woman around 19 years old, conscious, suffering a stab wound to her upper body. We gave her life-saving first aid and evacuated her quickly in very serious condition," Magen David Adom paramedic Shai Levi said.

The stabber was shot and killed by a Home Front Command soldier at the scene, the IDF said. A suspected accomplice was arrested.

Palestinian media identified the man as 22-year-old Muataz Atallah Qassem of East Jerusalem's Eizariya neighborhood.

Police blocked the area off for traffic, and began searching for explosive devices.

Earlier Wednesday, an Israeli policeman was mildly injured in an apparent car-ramming attack next to the West Bank settlement of Ofra, north of Jerusalem. The driver crashed into the checkpoint after ignoring police warnings to stop. Security forces opened fire on the vehicle as it approached the barrier, reports said.

The driver was not apprehended and managed to flee the scene to the nearby village of Silwad. Security forces were searching the area for the suspect.

Magen David Adom paramedics administered first-aid treatment to the injured policeman, who did not need to be taken to a hospital.

The car-ramming incident came a day after similar attacks in the southern West Bank. A soldier and a civilian were lightly hurt Tuesday morning when a car rammed into a bus stop in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Jerusalem.

Later Tuesday, an Israeli man from Kiryat Arba was hit by a truck and killed Tuesday afternoon after he emerged from his vehicle, which had just been hit by Palestinian rock throwers.

Scene of vehicular terror attack, West Bank, October 21, 2015

A suspected vehicular attack that injured four IDF soldiers took place in the southern West Bank on Wednesday evening near Beit Omar and the Gush Etzion bloc of settlements.

Magen David Adom reported that it treated the victims who were in their twenties at the scene of the attack and who were then evacuated to hospital in Jerusalem.

IDF forces in the area shot the suspected terrorist who was in serious condition.

The car with Israeli passengers came under attack by rock throwers who exited their vehicle and were then hit by a passing vehicle.

There was rioting and rock throwing reported at the site of the attack.

Earlier on Wednesday, a terrorist stabbed and seriously wounded a female IDF soldier in an attack in Kikar Adam, north of Jerusalem in the Binyamin region. The wounded soldier was from the Home Front Command's Kedem battalion.

A second female soldier shot and killed the knife attacker, the IDF said. Another suspect was apprehended near the scene of the attack.

"The Palestinians have withdrawn their demand that the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization declare the Western Wall an "integral part" of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Jerusalem's Temple Mount, Israeli officials said Wednesday.

Israel's ambassador to UNESCO, Carmel Shama Hacohen, confirmed to Israel Radio Wednesday that the Palestinian delegation had proposed a new version of the controversial resolution, removing the clause that would have declared the Western Wall a Muslim site.

He said the initial proposal had met with opposition from a range of countries including Russia, China and even Cuba.

The resolution - which the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) executive board is scheduled to vote on Wednesday - still contains a request to recognize Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem and the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron as Muslim sites. Israeli diplomats said they would continue to fight the resolution, and try to get allied states to reject it...

According to sources in Paris, where UNESCO's executive committee was to vote Wednesday, negotiations over the final draft were still ongoing. Some European governments have not yet decided how they are going to vote...

Speaking alongside UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who visited Israel on Tuesday in a bid to pursue solutions to the resurgent violence, President Reuven Rivlin said efforts to inflame tensions must be rejected.

'The United Nations and all its institutions have a responsibility to work against any escalation of the conflict. UNESCO must reject any attempt to deny the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount,' he said..."

Scene of stabbing attack in Hebron, October 20, 2015.

Two terrorists wielding a knife attempted to stab IDF soldiers in the West Bank city of Hebron on Tuesday night.

One soldier sustained light wounds in the incident.

In response, the other soldier shot both of the attackers dead.

Tuesday saw a number of attacks as a recent spike in violence has continued for some three weeks.

Earlier Tuesday, a Palestinian terrorist lightly wounded an IDF soldier and an Israeli civilian in an attempted vehicular ramming and stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank.

After ramming his car into the pedestrians, the assailant then emerged from his vehicle, brandishing a knife. In response, an IDF commander opened fire on the perpetrator, striking and killing him.

In another attack earlier in the day, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed and lightly wounded an IDF officer near the West Bank town of Bet Awwa, close to the Green Line and near the southern Israeli district of Lakhish.

Stabbing Attack In Hebron: IDF Soldier Lightly Wounded; 2 Attackers Shot Dead Document

A photo of the car involved in a suspected terror attack Monday, south of Jerusalem.

Two Israelis, a civilian and a soldier, were lightly wounded Tuesday in an apparent car-ramming terror attack at a bus stop in the Gush Etzion region of the West Bank, south of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian driver who hit the two men was shot and killed by security forces. His vehicle carried an Israeli license plate, and a knife was found in his possession, the Ynet news site reported.

The IDF said that after hitting the two men, aged 20 and 21, the Palestinian left his car and attempted to stab pedestrians.

Medical teams that arrived at the scene offered initial treatment to the injured men before rushing them to Hadassah Medical Center, Ein Kerem.

"When we arrived at the scene we saw a man standing at the intersection who had been hit by the car," Magen David Adom paramedic Dror Eini told Ynet.

"He was fully conscious but suffering from light injuries to his extremities. In addition, we saw a 20-year-old who was also fully conscious and walking around, who also had wounds to his arms and legs."

Earlier Tuesday, an Israeli civilian was killed near the West Bank city of Hebron after he was hit by a truck as he inspected the damage to his own car from rocks thrown by Palestinians. MDA paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, named as 54-year-old Kiryat Arba resident Avraham Hasano, but he died at the scene. It was not clear if the second vehicle was deliberately driven into him.

The driver who hit Hasano gave himself up to the Palestinian security forces in the area shortly afterward. He said he had hit the man by accident and fled the scene out of fear, Army Radio reported.

Channel 1 reported that Palestinian rioters attacked Israeli forces and medics as they tried to attend to the victim.

Earlier in the day, an IDF army officer sustained light injuries after being stabbed by a Palestinian man in the southern West Bank.

The stabber was shot and killed during the attack, amid what the army said a "violent riot" in the village of Beit Awwa in the Hebron Hills region.

MDA paramedics treated the injured soldier at the scene for a hand wound.

The officer, a company commander in the Givati infantry brigade, was expected to be taken to the hospital for further medical treatment.

The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry identified the stabber as Adi Hashem al Masalmeh, 24, from Beit Awwa.

The attacks came after Monday saw a rare respite from several weeks of almost daily shooting and stabbing attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers, both in the West Bank and throughout Israel.

The last month has also seen a surge in violent clashes in the West Bank between Palestinians and Israeli troops.

While many of the attacks have been centered around Jerusalem, the weekend saw a spike in stabbings in and around the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron, with three stabbing attacks on Saturday alone.

The current outbreak of violence was fueled by rumors that Israel was plotting to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and take over the Temple Mount, the holiest site to Jews and the third holiest one to Muslims.

Israel has adamantly denied the allegations, saying there are no plans to change the status quo between Muslim worshipers and Jewish visitors to the site, and has accused the Palestinians of incitement. Jews can currently visit the religious holy site but are not allowed to pray there.

A Palestinian terrorist stabbed and lightly wounded an IDF officer near the West Bank town of Bet Awwa, close to the Green Line and near the southern Israeli district of Lakhish.

Soldiers nearby shot and killed the attacker.

Magen David Adom paremdics said the soldier sustained a very light injury in the attack.

The last security incident in that area occurred on October 10 in the settlement of Neguhot, when an IDF officer tasked with securing the area spotted a Palestinian armed with a knife seeking to infiltrate the community.

He alerted the local armed civilian response team, which shot the terrorist in the leg. The IDF evacuated him to the hospital.

IDF Officer Lightly Wounded In Stabbing Attack In Southern West Bank Document

Vehicle of man who was struck by a truck and killed near Hebron on Tuesday, October 20.

An Israeli national was killed in a hit and run truck incident near a Palestinian village in the Hebron area, Magen David Adom said on Tuesday.

According to an initial check by security forces, Palestinians hurled rocks at the man's car. He stopped the vehicle, got out, and was struck by the truck.

According to Palestinian media reports, the Palestinian driver whose vehicle struck the man turned himself into the Palestinian police in nearby Daharia, in the South Hebron Hills, claiming that it was an accident and that he had not intended to hit the man.

Paramedics administered emergency treatment to a 50-year-old Jewish man who suffered critical injuries near the village of Al-Fawar.

Magen David Adom released a statement to the press saying that attempts to resuscitate the man failed, and first aid personnel pronounced the man dead just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

"When we got to the area, we saw a car," said MDA paramedic Eyal Mor-Yosef. "Next to the car was a man in his 50s lying unconscious. He had no pulse and no breath."

"There were injuries to critical bodily systems," the paramedic said. "Attempts to save his life were made before we were forced to pronounce him dead."

Security forces were on the scene and were seeking to gain additional details on the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed and lightly wounded an IDF officer near the West Bank town of Bet Awwa, close to the Green Line and near the southern Israeli district of Lakhish.

Soldiers nearby shot and killed the attacker.

Magen David Adom paremdics said the soldier sustained a very light injury in the attack.

Gunshots shatter a bus stop at Beersheva Central Bus Station in terror attack that killed an Israeli soldier on October 18, 2015 (IDF Spokesperson)

"As we sit here today, Israel is facing an onslaught of terrorism; men, women and children are being stabbed to death on the streets on a daily basis. Yet for them there has been no demand for an emergency session at the Security Council; no calls for the Palestinian leadership to stop their incitement; and not even a whisper of condemnation of these acts in this hall.

Eitam and Naama Henkin were shot to death while driving in their car. Their 4 children were in the vehicle and watched their parents die in front of their eyes.

These are just a few of the silent victims of Palestinian terror. Apparently, this Council has not seen fit to honor their memories with even the slightest recognition.

Mr. President, Over the course of the last month, 24 terror attacks have claimed the lives of 8 Israelis, and injured 70. 15 of them are still hospitalized. This tide of terror has washed over the entire nation and it spares no one: Young and old are being targeted every day.

Israelis do not feel safe walking down the street, they avoid taking the bus to work, and they fear for the lives of their children every time they walk out the door. The root cause of this wave of terror is clear. It is inflammatory rhetoric and lies lit the fuse, and incitement that keeps feeding the flames...

The Palestinians and the representatives of the Arab countries speak of the sacredness of their holy sites. When the Islamist militants desecrated Al-Aqsa by using it as a weapons depot, did any of them speak out? Of course not. Instead, Mahmoud Abbas defended these rioters, and lit the spark which set our region ablaze. He declared, and I quote: "We welcome every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem... With the help of Allah, every shaheed will be in heaven, and every wounded will get his reward ... Al-Aqsa is ours, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is ours, everything is ours, all ours. They have no right to desecrate them with their filthy feet." I repeat, their filthy feet.

Can you imagine the reaction if an Israeli leader, any leader, would have uttered such a hateful statement? The Security Council would have wasted no time in convening to condemn it. Yet, when the President of the Palestinian Authority makes such a blatantly prejudiced statement, the reaction of this Council is complete silence...

Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu stood here in the UN and declared that he is ready for direct negotiations with the Palestinians without any preconditions.

If this Council is serious about promoting peace, it must join in Prime Minister Netanyahu's call, and insist that President Abbas comes to the negotiating table..."

Israeli Ambassador Roet: Why No UN Security Council Emergency Session When Jews are Killed? Article

Police and rescue workers at the scene of shooting and stabbing attack at the Central Bus Station in the southern city of Beersheba, on October 18, 2015.

An IDF soldier was killed and 11 more people were injured in a terror attack at the Central Bus Station in the southern city of Beersheba Sunday night.

Among the injured was an Eritrean man shot and seriously wounded by responding security forces, who initially mistook him for a terrorist.

According to the police, following an initial investigation, the attacker stabbed a soldier and stole his weapon, opening fire on the crowded bus terminal.

The soldier later died of his wounds after being rushed to a hospital in the area.

Rescue officials said 11 people were injured in the attack, which occurred at about 7:30 p.m.

Two of the victims were reported to be seriously wounded. At least four of those hurt in the attack were cops, police said.

The terrorist, who was not initially identified, was shot and killed by responding forces after holing up in a bathroom.

In the confusion during the attack, an Eritrean man was shot by the head security officer, possibly because of the color of his skin.

Initial reports suggested there had been two attackers, but after an investigation police ruled that the Eritrean man was not involved in the attack.

Gadi Abuchatzeira, deputy head of the Magen David Adom Negev Region, said rescuers found a number of injured, all of them in their 20s, in the station.

"We arrived at the scene en masse and spread throughout the station to look for other victims. We did a triage and began giving lifesaving treatment. Two of them had wounds to their upper bodies, they were unconscious," Abuchatzeira said.

"Four of the injured were fully conscious in moderate condition and suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso and legs. A woman was also injured with a gunshot wound to the limbs," he continued.

Security-camera footage of the attack aired on Israeli TV seemed to show several people running from a man, who is eventually shot several times by a responding officer.

In the footage, no weapon can be seen in his hand, and he looks to possibly be trying to escape as well.

The attack was the first on what had been an otherwise quiet day, following a weekend that saw seven stabbings or stabbing attempts in Jerusalem, Hebron and elsewhere, amid a spate of attacks by Palestinians terrorists.

The Central Bus Station in Beersheba was later shut, and security personnel were searching the site for any additional threats.

Bus and train services in the area were halted as well, Channel 2 reported.

An eyewitness told Channel 2 news the attacker was able to enter the bus station - which doubles as a commercial center - fairly easily, despite bolstered security forces throughout the country amid the terror wave.

Earlier Sunday, hundreds of Palestinian protesters in two locations of the West Bank city of Hebron hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli security, following several stabbing attacks that were carried out by Palestinians in the area over the weekend.

In the West Bank city of Tulkarem, about 100 rioters hurled rocks, burned tires and threw Molotov cocktails at Israel Defense Forces soldiers, who responded with nonlethal dispersal means. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Dozens of Palestinians also burned tires along the southern part of the Gaza Strip border fence, the Ynet news site reported.

Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon at statement to press at the UN, October 16, 2015

"Today, the Security Council convened another meeting to discuss the growing tensions in my country, titled the situation in the Middle East.

However this is not what we need. What we do need is for this council to convene a meeting on the dangerous incitement led by President Abbas.

Only yesterday, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his willingness to meet with the Palestinian leadership and resume peace talks immediately, without preconditions, in order to bring calm to the region.

How did the Palestinians respond?

Did they grab the opportunity to engage in direct talks with Israel? No.

Did they offer to drive only 20 minutes between Ramallah and Jerusalem to meet? No.

Instead, they called on the Security Council to hold this emergency meeting.

Ever since President Abbas made his hate-filled speech and outrageously claimed, "The Jews desecrate the Temple Mount with their "dirty feet". Dirty feet. We have seen a sharp increase, from the quote until today, in violence against Israeli civilians. The tide of terror is washing over the entire nation spares no one: babies, children, men and women are being targeted every day.

Israelis are being stabbed, bombed, run over and stoned, yet this council remains silent. Just last night, the holy site, the tomb of Joseph, a Jewish holy site, was set on fire by a mob of Palestinians.

On Monday, a Palestinian boy attacked an Israeli boy who was riding his bike, stabbing him no less than 15 times. Let me repeat: 15 times!

The victim is still hospitalized in critical condition.

Ask yourselves, why would a 13-year-old boy decide to go on a stabbing spree and try to take another boy's life?

How come? We all have children. The answer is that such acts of terror do not occur in a vacuum.

When a Palestinian child returns from school and opens the Television, he doesn't see Barney or Donald Duck, he sees murderers portrayed as heroes. When he opens a textbook, he doesn't learn about math and science, he's being taught to hate.

This picture you see here is an example of the kind of messages that Palestinian children are being exposed to day in and day out. In school, after school. The picture gives children elaborate instructions on how to stab a Jew.

We talk about a lot about incitement – here you see what Palestinian incitement looks like.

The picture is being taught in middle schools, in high schools, in elementary schools. Instead of educating about peace and tolerance, the Palestinian leadership is brainwashing children with incitement and hate.

Palestinian leaders have established an incubator to raise children as terrorists...

To sum up, I want to say to the international community and to the Security Council: If you are serious about promoting peace, If you are truly committed to advancing co-existence in our region. Make a clear statement against the incitement that fuels terror..."
