The ICC and War Criminal Charges Against Israel

Palestinians' first attempt to pursue Israel at the ICC (Declaration under article 12(3) of the Rome Statute that claims it "recognizes the jurisdiction of the Court for the purpose of identifying, prosecuting and judging the authors and accomplices of acts committed on the territory of Palestine since 1 July 2002")
  • January 22, 2009: Palestinian Authority files a declaration at the International Criminal Court purporting to accept the Court's jurisdiction over acts "committed on the territory of Palestine" since July 1, 2002
  • May 2009-May 2010: Ad hoc submissions by Israeli and Palestinian authorities and others regarding whether the Palestinian declaration accepting jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court is valid
  • April 4, 2012: The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court releases a declaration declining to act on the purported declaration by the Palestinian Authority
