  • "The BDS movement contains three major parts, namely: Boycott, which targets products and companies in Israel and international companies that profit through the violation of human rights. Anyone can boycott Israeli goods simply by making sure that you don't buy products made in Israel or by Israeli companies. This will symbolise a sign of unity from concerned citizens and will put more pressure on Israel.

Secondly Divestments are experienced on a higher level through a bank, institution or a pension fund investment. If you are involved in one of these, such as a bank for example, you can petition the bank to remove their investments, they divest away from the occupation. Together, these efforts raise awareness about the reality of Israeli policies and encourage companies to use their economic influence to pressure Israel...Thirdly in the BDS system is sanctions,... Israel's membership of various diplomatic and economic forums provides both an unmerited veneer of respectability and material support for its crimes by calling for sanctions against Israel... A country can decide to close the Israeli embassy or send the Israeli ambassador back to Israel from any country that is not in support of the occupation....

The Boycott-movement is gaining momentum around the globe. Let's join hands work together towards this noble cause."

  • "PHROC [Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council] issued a statement welcoming the EU's labeling of settlement products while noting that labeling was insufficient. PHROC again affirms that neither labeling requirements issued by states nor the presence of boycott movements initiated by civil society relieve states of their legal obligation to ban Israeli settlement products from entering their domestic markets... [S]tates should not prohibit or attempt to limit civil society and human rights defenders from initiating BDS measures against Israel and the corporations and institutions that are implicated in the denial of Palestinian human rights. It is also within the right of corporations and institutions to choose to disengage from activities related to the occupation and/or participate in BDS measures... PHROC further calls on international human rights organizations to stand with the right to engage in boycott, divestment and sanctions against any state, corporation or entity that is violating international law."

  • "Intel operates two manufacturing plants, known as FAb 18 and Fab 28, and which it opened in 1999 and 2009, respectively in "Kiryat Gat"...ACTION Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, calls on all its members and supporters to write to Intel and demand that:...Intel abandon its investments and shut down and dismantle its plants in Israel... Intel has far more attractive options long-term for building and expanding in other countries. These options serve Intel's customers, shareholders and employees in far more productive and honorable ways. SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION"

(Excerpt from "ACTION: DEMAND INTEL CLOSE ITS PLANTS IN "KIRYAT GAT", Al-Awda, October 21, 2012, last accessed July 13, 2016)

  • "There is a significantly heightened urgency to demand our right to return to our homes and lands in historic Palestine...Some work Al-Awda accomplished in 2011 and 2012 to keep the right to return cause alive:...Actively participated in boycott, divestment and sanction (BDS) actions, and will continue to do so until Palestinian rights are restored in full."

(Excerpt from 'ACTION: SUPPORT AL-AWDA, A GREAT ORGANIZATION AND CAUSE!', Al-Awda, April 22, 2012)
  • "Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition affirms that the Palestinian Arab people, regardless of their religious affiliation, are indigenous to Palestine. Therefore, they are entitled to live anywhere in Palestine which encompasses present-day 'Israel', the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Al-Awda regards the 'Israeli' definition of Jewish nationals, granting exclusive rights to citizenship and land to any Jew from anywhere in the world, as part of the racism and discrimination inherent in Zionist ideology which underlies the policies and laws of the settler state of 'Israel'.

Al-Awda unequivocally supports the rights of all Palestinian refugees to return to their original towns, villages and lands anywhere in Palestine from which they were expelled.... All Palestinians are entitled to the rights to self-determination, to political, economic and civil equality, and to live in a single democratic state for all its citizens in all of Palestine. The Palestinian national identity encompasses more than 5.5 million people living in exile, more than 2.5 million living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and more than 1.2 million living within the areas of Palestine controlled by "Israel" since 1948.

Al-Awda firmly stands against the continued displacement of Palestinians, the construction of illegal Jewish-only colonies in the form of residential settlements, the racist confiscation of land and the demolition of homes since 1948....Al-Awda abhors and condemns the use of massacres and abuse of civilians to further the expansion of 'Israel' to the detriment of Palestinian society.
    ....
Al-Awda will work to educate the public about "Israeli" injustices the US government subsidizes with billions of dollars annually. Until the dismantlement of the exclusionary and racist character of "Israel", and until all Palestinians are granted the right to return and achieve equality, Al-Awda is united in working for and demanding:
    • An end to all US political, military and economic aid to 'Israel'
    • The divestment of all public and private entities from all 'Israeli' corporations and American corporations with subsidiaries operating within 'Israel'
    • An end to the investment of Labor Union members' pension funds in 'Israel'
    • The boycott of all "Israeli" products...
    • The formation of an independent, democratic state for all its citizens in all of Palestine

(Excerpt from "Points of Unity," Al-Awda, last accessed August 15, 2016)

  • "Fifty seven years after the state of Israel was built mainly on land ethnically cleansed of its Palestinian owners, a majority of Palestinians are refugees, most of whom are stateless...We, representatives of Palestinian civil society, call upon international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era."

  • "We refer Member States of the UN to the following remedial actions that could and should be undertaken to comply with their obligations under international law by: 1. Adopting a ban on the import of Israeli produce coming from settlements into their markets; 2. Excluding settlement produce and companies involved in their trade from public procurement tenders; 3. Freezing the assets of legal and natural persons responsible for violation in international law; 4. Downgrading diplomatic relations with States committing and abetting these offenses; 5. Ending cooperation with Israel's parastatal institutions involved in funding or maintaining Israel's illegal settlement enterprises (including the World Zionist Organisation, the Jewish Agency, the Jewish National Fund, the United Israel Appeal, Mekorot and its affiliates) and revoking their privileged charitable status; 6. Imposing international and domestic sanctions on institutions supporting, or benefitting from settler colonies and/or natural-resource extraction in Palestine; 7. Withholding weapons, building materials, equipment and services that maintain the settler colony regime; 8. Prohibiting products and services originating from sources that support, benefit from, or are located in settler colonies; 9. Reviewing any assistance to, or cooperation with, the State Israeli, which may directly or indirectly aid the settler colony regime."

  • "Garik Ruiz, the North America Advocacy Advisor for the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) National Committee, talked to the Alternative Information Center about the BDS campaign against HP...How does the boycott campaign against HP compliment BDS campaigns targeting other companies such as orange, G4S, etc.?

G.R.: HP companies are being targeted by the Palestinian-led international BDS movement because HP profits from Israeli violations of Palestinian human rights...As with successful campaigns against other complicit corporations, such as Veolia, Orange and G4S, BDS is pressuring HP companies by advocating consumer boycotts as well as institutional divestment...

G.R.: With the withdrawal from the Israeli economy of major international corporations such as Veolia (2015) and Orange (2016) after successful BDS campaigns, as well as the very recent sale of most of G4S' (December, 2016) involvement with Israeli human rights abuses due to the ongoing G4S boycott campaign, corporations are starting to see that it is not only morally wrong to profit from Israel's occupation and apartheid system but also that it is bad for business. The growing impact and clout of the BDS movement, coupled with the McCarthyite war of repression against it by Israel and its allies are bringing BDS closer to the mainstream. We continue to build the movement at the grassroots level to pressure decision-makers to stop their complicity in Israel's regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid, as was done in the struggle against apartheid South Africa."

  • "Anyone who really fears for the future of the country needs to be in favor at this point of boycotting it economically.
    ...
Economic boycott was proven effective in South Africa. When the apartheid regime's business community approached the country's leadership saying that the prevailing circumstances could not continue, the die was cast. The uprising, the stature of leaders like Nelson Mandela and Frederik de Klerk, the boycott of South African sports and the country's diplomatic isolation also contributed of course to the fall of the odious regime. But the tone was set by the business community.

And it can happen here too. Israel's economy will not withstand a boycott."

Australians for Palestine fully endorses Palestinian Civil Society's call for Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. It joins the global movement against Israeli Apartheid and will concentrate its efforts on developing material and providing information about the BDS call and how it can be implemented. To that end, we aim to:...
Develop and produce multi-media presentations that explain what the BDS call is about as well as raise awareness about the human rights violations Palestinians face on a daily basis...
Our view is that boycott actions should aim to raise awareness and build support at the grass roots level. Every protest should have a positive impact and be designed to win the hearts and minds of consumers and to educate them that buying Israeli products supports a system of apartheid that violates Palestinian human rights. Boycotting these products allows them to demonstrate their disapproval of Israel's ongoing violation of Palestinian human rights."

  • "...Unlike liberal Zionists, Rosen unequivocally condemns the Nakba, the forced expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. 'By any other name,' he writes, 'this would be called 'ethnic cleansing,' and I have no trouble saying so.' In response to a reader, he says, 'If Zionism means ethnic cleansing, inequity, and transfer of indigenous peoples without some form of justice or repatriation, then no, I do not consider it to be legitimate.' He asks how is it possible for Jews to have a 'right of return' while denying the right to the indigenous Palestinian people.
    ...
    'Time-honored tactic'
In opposition to most liberal Zionists, Rosen endorses the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel, describing it as 'a time-honored nonviolent tactic used by disempowered peoples to leverage public support for social change.' In one of the more cogent responses to the charge that BDS is anti-Semitic because it singles out Israel among all the nations in the world that violate human rights, he argues that ignoring the call for BDS would be to ignore the Palestinian people themselves and their struggle for liberation.

Several blog entries tackle the so-called peace process, which Rosen views as unbalanced due to Israel's overwhelming power and its 'special relationship' with the US government. He writes that there will never be a genuine peace process until Israel approaches negotiations from the standpoint of 'restorative justice' - that is, accepting responsibility for the Nakba and the ongoing dispossession and oppression of the Palestinians.

  • "Despite the obstacles which the fight for Palestinian freedom faces, a South African-style sanctions campaign is not only necessary, but also possible. A boycott, divestment or sanctions campaign is necessary because one of the many parallels between the Palestinian and South African conflicts is that the dominators are militarily strong, but politically vulnerable. Palestinians will not be freed by weapons – apartheid could have survived a military assault indefinitely and so can the Israeli state - but they can be freed by effective politics. BDS may be even more important in Palestine than the sanctions campaign was in South Africa."

(Excerpt from "Lessons from the Campaign for Sanctions on Apartheid South Africa", by Steven Friedman, published in BADIL's Al-Majdal, Autumn 2013, BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, last accessed December 10, 2013)

  • "To date, the elements of boycott and divestment have produced successes after only a few years of the official BDS Campaign's existence... After eight years of successful struggle, the most urgent issue that needs to be raised today is the 'S' in the BDS acronym, or the campaigning for Sanctions against Israel... all states are under an obligation not to recognize the illegal situation resulting from the establishment of the colonial Zionist apartheid regime in Palestine... The General Assembly and the Security Council – acting for instance under Chapter VI and VII of the Charter - should strongly consider what further action is required to bring to an end the illegal situation resulting from Israel's colonial Zionist apartheid regime."

(Excerpt from "What happened to the 'S' in BDS?", by Amjad Alqasis, published in BADIL's Al-Majdal, BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Right, Autumn 2013, last accessed December 10, 2013)

  • "EU approved a grant to Ahava – an Israeli firm making cosmetics in a settlement in the occupied West Bank and contributing to the crime of pillaging [of the Dead Sea]... Civil society, including BDS campaigners, will have to continue playing an important role in monitoring the Guidelines' implementation and pressuring for all ineligible Israeli entities to be excluded from receiving EU money. We should also work to compel the EU to recognize that Israeli apartheid is the system that applies on both sides of the 1967 Green Line."

  • "The boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement is civil society's attempt to hold Israel to account where governments have failed. Since its launch in 2005 by a broad swath of Palestinian civil society, BDS's successes have been both symbolically and materially tremendous and have associated a high cost for those actors and institutions who are complicit in Israeli colonial and Apartheid practices. It is precisely the BDS movement's success and tangible impact in challenging Israeli impunity that has made it a target for Israeli repression."

    ...
the European Union and its member states should proactively advise businesses to: Cease all trade with Israeli export companies that operate inside illegal Israeli settlements, since trade with such companies provides capital to businesses involved in the maintenance and expansion of Israeli settlements
Avoid involvement or investment in the provision of infrastructure products and services to illegal Israeli settlements such as transport, waste and environmental services, given that such projects violate international law
End all investment in companies, projects and businesses operating inside illegal Israeli settlements, including by divesting existing investments
Be aware of the risk of legal action against the business for breaches of international law

In addition, the European Union should:
Conduct a Human Rights Impact Assessment of its trade agreements with Israel, given that companies operating in illegal Israeli settlements are able to export produce to Europe using procedures put in place by these agreements.
Encourage its member states to withdraw state support from and not procure services from companies that refuse to address their contribution to human rights violations."

The cultural boycott exposes Israel's violations on an international platform, preventing Israel's efforts to falsely present itself as a normal state. Many musicians and artists have joined the cultural boycott by cancelling tours and refusing to play in Israel.

    Action:
If you know of any artists or academics who are planning on visiting Israel or are being hosted in the UK for an event please inform FOA at info@aqsa.organd we can arrange an appropriate action alert."

  • "The Don't Dance with Israeli Apartheid campaign, which FOA is part of is calling for the boycott of the Batsheva Dance Company when it embarks on its UK tour in August. Batsheva is funded by the Israeli state and is part of PR exercise designed by their Ministry of Foreign Affairs known as 'Brand Israel'. Its aim is to whitewash Israel's human rights abuses and violations of international law, creating a false image of a 'normally' functioning, democratic country... We request you to write a letter (template letter available) to your nearest venue which is scheduled to host Batsheva asking for the invitation to be withdrawn due to the apartheid state it represents."

  • "Does FOSNA support boycott, divestment, and sanctions?

FOSNA is committed to nonviolent means to end the oppression of Palestinians in Israel and in the occupied territories. Boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) are nonviolent methods of working for justice, and FOSNA supports the use of these in the campaign against Israeli settler colonialism and discrimination. These are the same methods also used to target apartheid in South Africa, racial discrimination in the United States and colonial rule in India."
